Armed Forces day 2023 - A boost to the local economy

There is appropriately 90 days left until Armed forces day. This event, taking place on the 24th and 25th of June, will take place in Falmouth. The days will focus on the Celebration of the UK’s armed forces, with a 100 day tour of a Union flag around the Duchy, which will culminate in a display by the Red arrows display team.

When the date comes around, Falmouth will play host to a number of events, including parades by the armed forces alongside veterans and the various cadet organisations. A canon salute will also be fired by a gun grew alongside RAF Air Commodore Polly Perkins. This day is expected to attract many visitors to the Cornish port and provide a boost to the local economy. However, the cost of the event must be also factored into the day.                                                                                                                                             There have been a number of concerns raised as to the state of the British armed forces, and one cannot help looking at the planned events and to see how this could be beneficial. Locally, businesses in Falmouth have the potential to have a boost, as previously stated. We also could see new people gain an interest in serving. And indeed, the respect to servicemen and woman both past, present and future is important. But, is the cost of the event going to truly pay for itself ? I would like to hope so, but we believe that it is important to be cautious in these tumultuous times of economic insecurity and an increasingly hostile military climate.
