Increasing Post-16 bus prices and a consultation

  For the 2022/2023 it costs £540 per post-16 student under current subsidised transport policy in Cornwall. Within this current policy Cornwall Council pays £4,400 per student, which keeps the cost down for 1,000 students across the Duchy. Due to the increase of demand alongside the Conservative Council has proposed that the price parents pay is in line with inflation, that being £700.   Though the increase in understandable In terms of balancing the books, it however overlooks the basic understanding of the increased cost of bills and food within the current price of living crisis. An increase of this bill will be too difficult for the majority of the population, especially with the afore mentioned issues alongside stagnate pay within the duchy.  This also does poke one major hole in the current budget put forward by the Unitary Authority of Cornwall. Armed Forces day 2023 - A boost to the local economy

  There is appropriately 90 days left until Armed forces day. This event, taking place on the 24 th  and 25 th  of June, will take place in Falmouth. The days will focus on the Celebration of the UK’s armed forces, with a 100 day tour of a Union flag around the Duchy, which will culminate in a display by the Red arrows display team. When the date comes around, Falmouth will play host to a number of events, including parades by the armed forces alongside veterans and the various cadet organisations. A canon salute will also be fired by a gun grew alongside RAF Air Commodore Polly Perkins. This day is expected to attract many visitors to the Cornish port and provide a boost to the local economy. Hunt's budget - a cursory glance

  Mr. Hunt, MP for West Surrey and now Chancoller of the Exchequer has released the budget for the fiscal year 2023/2024. The Chancoller has outlined the main goals for this budget. These include : Removing obstacles that stop business investing; Tackling labour shortages that stop recruitment Breaking down barriers that stop people working; Harnessing bristish ingenuity These are of course noble, if expected goals that could have been written by most students let alone an experienced politician. Camborne's town deal - a bribe ?

  The Government in Westminster has released funding for the Camborne town deal. This town deal is a part of the Levelling up deal that began under the Johnson administration, with Camborne being awarded £23.7 million in total to support. This is to support four project for the town centre of the town, including green spaces, a theatre and new workspace. The final £16.5 million will be released to Cornwall Council towards the end of March.  The Town deals and levelling up projects proposed and created by the Westminster government with the aim of creating economic growth in the periphery of the United Kingdom. Within Cornwall, which is one of the most poverty stricken areas in the European continent, Cornwall has seen a number of towns receive funds such as St Ives, Penzance and Truro. Unfortunately, areas such as Helston and the Lizard peninsula are absent from this list. So though there has been some support, across the Duchy, there are many areas which have been passed over.
