The Mayor Consultation - Betrayal in a few easy steps

  A consultation was completed by Cornwall Council regarding the Conservative parties bribe for Cornwall. The promise was a “big deal” for Cornwall resulting in better more devolved level of power for the Cornish people. However, when the deal was revealed, we discovered that there was no benefits with the deal. £12 million a year is earmarked for very specific tasks, whilst a £60 million deficit has not been resolved or reduced. An improvement in local democracy was expected, but instead the Mayor position has guaranteed the opposite of the this hope. The position of mayor requires a vast majority of Cornwall councillors to overturn any choice that the Mayor has made that they oppose against, such as the budget. We should also keep in mind that many authorities that have access to the level 3 funding, which the devolution deal is supposed to ensure, do not have Mayors. A request for homes - From the Council who hasn't helped the housing crisis

Cornwall Council has made a request for volunteer households. With the increasing prices associated with both the price of living crisis alongside the media’s obsession of encouraging mass movement to Cornwall, buying a house in one’s homeland is becoming increasingly difficult and near impossible for the peoples of Cornwall. For this reason, the Council has decided to ask for the community to support those of us who do not have homes, and cannot be under a safe roof to lend rooms or annexes. I am sure that our Cornish community will help, as we always do, those in need. Times are hard, but those who can do tend to help.   However, the Council cannot wriggle free of it’s responsibility. Whilst arguing for a mayor position, they did not fight for control of our housing market. Nor did they fight for affordable housing to be truly affordable for the Cornish people.
